THE EXPERT AT ANYTHING WAS ONCE A BEGINNER

UNIVERSITY PUTRA MALAYSIA – SERDANG CAMPUS: Najmi Zesdyzar, also known as Jimmy, is one of the young entrepreneurs in University Putra Malaysia. He is a twenty years old student, currently doing a Bachelor’s in Science and Architecture. He also owns a small Shirt Designing Business.
What motivated Jimmy to start his business was mainly because he didn’t want to be a burden on his parents, as being an architect student requires spending lots of money on architecture materials. “Go with what you want to do, even if you fail at the beginning, and do look for what people like and dislike. Simply, fit what you want to do with the trend” Jimmy’s motivation for young people planning to start a business.” Jimmy
Jimmy entered the world of entrepreneurship in April- 2017, that was during his foundation year. His first deal was designing UPM foundation Lanyard.
After designing the Lanyard for UPM, his name started to pass around. Which brought him his second deal, that is Jimmy’s most important part of his whole business journey. Designing a shirt for A.H.A TRIVENTURE GROUP, the theme is “NEGARAKU”. NEGARAKU shirt is the company’s first product, once it was launched to the public, the number of AHA TRIVENTURE Instagram followers rose from few hundreds to 10,000 followers. For this deal
as a beginner, Jimmy did not know what amount of money he should get, so he was paid around RM 350.
“NEGARAKU shirt was one of the few shirts that I’ve designed, and seeing a model wearing it, and then while walking around the street seeing other people wearing it, and even at the malls I see lots of people wearing it, which made me feel proud of myself”. Jimmy said explaining why NEGARAKU shirt is the most important part of his business journey.
Working with A.H.A TRIVENTURE GROUP gave Jimmy the chance to gain more customers, as the company managers helped to spread his name and design to their surroundings. The company also started passing designing deals to Jimmy.
Jimmy also designed for -Sekolah Menengah Jalan Empat- athletics shirt, and he charged RM 60 per shirt and he got around RM 1000.
After a while of designing several shirts for different events, Jimmy came with two goals and a vision: The first goal is the current goal, which is working to have an income that is enough for his pocket money and his studying materials.
The second goal is his long-term goal, which is launching his own shirts trend. Jimmy is planning to apply the second goal once he starts his own company.
Moving to his vision which is: not following the conventional design of shirts, and to break the routine by designing shirts that can be worn everywhere and anytime, not only for a specific occupations and events.
As an entrepreneur Jimmy advises his fellows and anyone who wants to start a business to “Always have a backup plan when trusting anyone, as people can cheat on you and put you in a trouble”
