SERDANG – “Don’t use money as the motivation, use your passion as the motivation” says 20 year old, Muhtarom Zain Muhammad Sondakh. As a Computer Science student majoring in Multimedia, Zain awakens his entrepreneurship spirit by creating a freelance graphic design consultant called, ZOKG. He first picked up his talent in high school where he excels in Information and Computer Technology subject. To support, his arts scores were surprisingly high during a psychological test he took before going into Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Now, five months into creating his business; he has been trusted to work with UPM very own Indonesian Student Association, and back home in Lombok, Indonesia he works as a consultant to rebrand an interior design and building, Bandung Putri Interior.
As a third year student who is eager to learn about the real life working experience, he didn’t necessarily put a special investment into the business. What he did was to invest in the complimentary goods for the service, such as his laptop and marketing tools. His multimedia major includes an element of graphic design, which has helped him outsmart the software to work to his benefit and paved the way to his first client. According to Zain, first client is his most important client he would ever have, he says “it is because first client will make or break you and your work ethics – you ought to dress to impress. It’s difficult to create a name that people would trust with their brand, so make sure you’re doing what you’re passionate about and never make money as the motivation. It takes time that is why you should always do it because it is your passion so you will do it whole heartedly and go the extra mile”. He admits that being an entrepreneur, it is important to possess an optimistic character to bring success. That is how one sees opportunities in each and every business deals.
ZOKG specialized in logo design and offers services in banner, brochure, CV and poster, with its elegant simplicity that differentiate ZOKG from any other graphic designer. As the main designer of ZOKG, Zain thinks every designer has their own style and they should stay true to their own style. The way Zain wants to be connected and engage with his clients is by resonating his clients’ image with his style. To Zain success can be measured by the familiarity, originality and simplicity of its logo, for example, Nike’s swoosh. Zain continued sharing his vision for ZOKG, to be a professional brand consultant with its own studio for creative production.
